I've eaten here a couple times, never had a problem with the service and waiters - have even seen them smile :o) - not much small talk but efficient and straightforward - certainly on a par with anywhere else in chinatown; I think the food is particularly good and prices reasonable! Ambience is no big factor - you go there to eat good chinese food :o)

What a horrible place. After waiting 45 minutes to be seated in what is a very cramped restaurant, we were herded downstairs with another couple and sat crammed in like sardines unaware of the joy that was to unfold.

First came the noodles which were cold / lukewarm depending on which angle you attacked them from. The salt and pepper squid, to be fair, was lovely.

Then came the bill.

I noted a service charge had already been added (on the bill as S/C) and since the service had been rude and surly with plates literally getting thrown onto the table, I declined to pay the service charge and left enough money to cover the bill itself. The waiter took the money and within 30 seconds threw (and I mean threw) the bill back on the table and said very rudely "The service charge is not optional, pay now" while jabbing his finger at the bill. I laughed and told him that I found the service rude and was not going to pay it, certainly not now after his outburst. He disappeared and returned a minute later and repeated his performance even more aggressively. We were now in the realms of Monty Python. By this time the girlfriend and I were pulling on our coats in disgust. My exit was blocked by the manager who very aggressively blocked the stairs up to the street level and said, again very rudely, "Why haven't you paid the service charge, don't you think he was doing his job bringing your food to the table? You're paying his wages. Next time you're not going to pay it then tell me before you eat'.

At that point I'd had enough and loudly enough for the room to hear laid into him him for having a cold food and aggressively rude staff who verbally assaulted customers who refused to pay the underhanded and 'optional' service charge and told him if he didn't move I'd have the police there within 5 minutes. Since my exit was being blocked by the manager and 3 waiters, short of getting physical, this seeemed the best option. They parted slightly and I pulled my girlfriend out he restaurant laughing (and I must say slightly shaking) at the experience.

Nothing, I repeat nothing will ever get me back into this hole of a 'restaurant'. Places like this give London eating a bad name and if I saw the joint closed down, the world would be a better place.

Steer clear. Really. The food blows hot and cold (literally!), the service is astonishingly rude and being close to physically assaulted for refusing to pay a sneaked-in service charge defies belief.
