LondonEats.com Review:
The quality of food here rises above the dated décor. Main courses of cod, halibut or salmon can be served with vegetables and potatoes or chips. We highly recommend you go for the chips - superb!Payment

John & Toni Saturday, September 29, 2007 | Rating: As good as ever, very friendly with local and tourist clientele. Excellent jumbo skate and jumbo rock, petit pois for her and mushy peas for me, with great basket of chips/tartare sauce. Mother is still making those 'special' desserts. Also special on the night, an excellent South African cabernet chilled to bits, lively with fruit. Can't wait to go again.5450 |
Eddie Snowdon Tuesday, January 16, 2007 | Rating: Fish & chips is as easy a dish to get right as wrong. Fresh fish is the minimum starting point. North Sea use fresh fish, fresh batter and groundnut oil. They serve excellent mushy peas and sublime tartare sauce. Many won't like it this way. However, you won't find better in London and I've spent 20 years looking. A traditional supper in a fittingly traditional, comforting old fashioned setting. Take a huge appetite: try the halibut, bread & butter & a cup o'rosie. 5012 |
Dr Nick Smith Thursday, July 31, 2003 | Rating: I ate here with my wife and children (8 and 4) last monday. We were very pleased. The staff were friendly and pleasant to the children. I enjoyed the ambience which was old-fashioned and unpretencious (some would say dated, but I found it rather comforting). The four of us ate for just under £40 which included haddock & chips twice (excellent with a fine batter - we shared these with the children), and then desserts all-round. I particularly enjoyed the creme caramel which had a flavour that was not masked by too much sweetness. We're used to spending up to about £7 on fish and chips between us, but we were happy to part with the money here. Relaxed and enjoyable and definitely worth visiting. 1177 |
Saturday, March 08, 2003 | Rating: If fish & chips is so good in the North East, why do you need curry sauce, etc, to mask the flavour? Having said that, I agree with almost everything else he said about this place. I really wonder whether Mr Moorby has actually eaten proper fish & chips or maybe he's related to the owners? Prices reasonable?? They might be if the fare was remotely edible. Do your tummy a favour and give this one a miss.873 |
Stephen Moorby Thursday, February 20, 2003 | Rating: Fish and chips reliable and high quality. Prices reasonable. One of my top three London fish and chip shops.841 |
