LondonEats.com Review:
The menu changes daily in this pub at Chalk Farm. Why not try the roast duck salad with bacon and potatoes (£9.50)? They also do a £5 weekday lunch time menu.Payment

JQXB Tuesday, December 04, 2007 | Rating: The whole experience was distinctly average and while The Landsdowne did not do anything particularly poorly they did not at the same surpass themselves in any one department. Overall the evening was reminiscent of eating at my aunt's who is definitely not a good cook. I was more impressed with my meal at The Engineer round the corner which although slightly more expensive, had better service and tastier food.5625 |
Primrose Hill-ian Sunday, March 06, 2005 | Rating: I have to agree with the above reviewer when it comes to food and service - it leaves a little to be desired. My friends chicken leg was virtually uncooked. It certainly was overpriced. The menu also suffers from trying-so-hard-to-be-contemporary-itis, meaning that the one's who dream up these dishes barely know what to call them or how to cook them. Every item is a "salmon-glacial terrine with kraut-slunged butter sprouts" or something incomprihensible along them lines. You can get lucky - in all fairness, I've had some nice meals there, too. But mostly they disappoint. The service can also be a bit distant - not rude in any way, it's just you get the feeling the place is run by a couple of mates who rather would join you in drinking than serve you food. But as a straight boozer, the Landsdowne is very nice. Especially in the summer when you can sit outside. If you can get to the bar, that is. 3144 |
Stewart Motha Wednesday, July 14, 2004 | Rating: I am writing after several frustrating experiences at the Lansdowne. There is considerable potential for charm in this lovely setting. The service can be efficient. Upstairs is generally better for calm service. But on the whole it is a huge disappointment. The food on the last three occasions, over about 3 months, has been consistently poor. complaints to staff have been received poorly. On the last occasion the food and service was extremely poor. Speaking with the manager only yielded a rude response of "you don't need to eat here", "you should have sent your food back earlier..." and so on. Very unprofessional!! To be avoided!!

Margerie Hancock Monday, November 10, 2003 | Rating: I have visited both the pub below and restaurant above. Depending upon what you are looking for in an evening you will find both ends of the spectrum here. The pub below can be loud at times on a busy evening but the service, although stretched a little thin, is friendly and helpful, young and hip and the food similarly impeccable to the cuisine served above. The restaurant is an entirely different experience from that of the downstairs pub. It is far less noisy, charming and ambient, an ideal venue for a quiet meal or sit down dinner with friends. 1396 |
