Just left Rick's and felt compelled to write a review for the first time. Food was ok, but over-priced. That wasn't the main issue, that came with the bill. They added on a bottle of wine to the bill (an honest mistake maybe) but having taken payment that's when the fun started. Didn't know how to refund on the card so said they would give us the cash back. They then gave us less than was due even when they had the amount they charged on the bill as well as the amount they should have charged. It's simple maths. Then proceeded to make a big issue out of it, making my finance feel very uncomfortable, the last straw being the guy bringing over a chair to try and explain again. Perhaps try a simple apology, learn maths and try and leave the CUSTOMER feeling happy!

Better go to Antelope for a better all round dining experience.

My friends and I have eaten at Ricks on several occasions, and the food is always exceptional and excellent value considering the huge portions served. The wine list is always fabulous and generally the place never fails to impress. However, on the last 2 visits, we have been served by an extremely surley young waitress, who glares, tuts and bumps into chairs if you are a little slow finishing your meal towards the end of the evening which spoils the overall excellence somewhat!

Had Dinner at Ricks, Food was Fabulous! I would definitely recommend it to anyone! Anyone visiting London shouldnt leave without a trip to Ricks Cafe, Forth time I have been there and every time I return it seems to be better! Had a lovely meal there. People with their reviews obviously dont know real food if it hit them in the face! They sould maybe try MacDonalds, maybe its more in their range?
Thanks Rick!

Me, my boyfriend and my best friend went on a shopping trip in london and were transported in a limosine. It was a great experience and lunch at ricks cafe made it even better!! i think to make the service a higher number the staff nees to be a bit more considerate to the custumers.

Popped out for a few pints with my mate from Tooting last night, and had tea at Rick's food was lovely, my mate had the chicken pie and I had the veggie lasagne, granted this does not sound too inspiring but both were modern twists of the dishes and well presented, piping hot and bloody lovely!! Ambience is tarted up ex-greasy spoon, but has a nice laid back feel. I have a big appetite, and required side order of veg to satisfy, and this was on top of my starter, and I squeezed a pud in- not bad for a 11stoner!! I would recommend and will be back there soon - good stuff

I have eaten at Rick's Cafe a few times. The first time, while waiitng for the starter we had ordered, we were given some bread rto dip inot the balsamic vinegar and oil mix. However this mix had a dead fly in it.
On my second visit, when we had ordered our puddings, my firneds's pudding of ginger cake and custard was cold!!
My third visit we waiited over 1 hour for the main course! No sapologes given.

The food is delicious, but the waiitng staff need to improve on their customer care skills.

It was my first time at Ricks Café and after reading all the reviews was very much looking forward to it. We were given a menu of which I ordered the duck and was told that I had ordered the last duck dish as they had ran out. After 20 minutes a different waitress came over to tell me that it had ran out after all ( Shed made a mistake)! At the same time I asked if we could have an ashtray and the waitress said she would get one for me. I was then told by another waitress that it was a non smoking restaurant. Ten seconds later I was handed an ashtray by another waitress by which time I was slightly confused as to what I should do! When I questioned this I was then told that actually I could smoke and that the other waitress had got it wrong just like my Duck!! All in all the food was amazing but they really need to be looking at hiring new staff…. Go for the food not the serve!

Yet again had a fantastic meal out at Rick's. I don't see how anyone can say anything bad about this place, the food is excellent and the staff are perfect. The chef cooked the best and most tender rare sirloin steak I have had in a long time. Will definitely be returning yet again!

I used to live on Garratt Lane back when there were two options for eating out: a toss up between a fry up or a curry. So when we headed back there to meet my boyfriend's Dad for lunch I wasn't sure what to expect.

But Rick's blew any preconceptions I had out of the water. Our Sunday lunch was delicious, fresh and very relaxed. The pork belly with crackling was both succulent and crunchy in all the right places. And the fresh fish was to die for.

It was also amazing to have the (very) open kitchen so close to the tables. I just glanced over my shoulder and saw my mussels being steamed - and there's no better way to really get your taste buds going! It also shows how competent a chef has to be, as there is no room for mistakes, tantrums and mess ups.

What can I say, it was the perfect way to spend a Sunday afternoon. I may now live in North London, but I'll certainly be heading back to Tooting again.

Simon B is hilarious.. Says overpriced even with his 'vouchers'. Say no more!!
If you are looking for a bit of stodge then go get a Kebab!!

Anyways - I've been here several times and the food and service never fails.
Where else in Tooting or the surrounding area can U get such a variety of good food and wine at this price??
The previous smoky atmosphere has even been resolved with a v powerful fan system!!
The rioja is the best priced and always the right temperature. The 'caldo gallego' I had as a starter was just like being back in Galicia.
I will be back pronto.

I cannot believe what Simon is saying about this fantastic restaurant! Rick's Cafe is without a doubt the best place to eat out in Tooting. The food is consistently excellent, with a great choice every night of the week.

We go regularly and love the food, atmosphere and staff. This is the type of restaurant that I would like to see more of in Tooting.

My wife & I have been going to Ricks since it opened a few year ago. Every time we have had excellent food & service.
I work away from home and eat in good restaurants 3/4 nights a week. Taking that into account, I still look forward to a visit to Ricks cafe when I spend my own money on good food

I can't believe Simon Burnett went to the same place.
Yes it is on the small side, and the seats are a little uncomfortable, but I can't see anything that justifies comparing it to Dallas Chicken n' Ribs.

This in an inexpensive, and atmospheric restaurant with friendly and personal service. The food is excellent and the menu is regularly changed.

I've been about 5 times in the last year, and I'd recommend it to anyone.

I thought I must comment on Rick's after seeing the other reviews.  I too live in Tooting, and Rick's is the best restaurant in SW17 by far.  We go fairly regularly by ourselves, with friends, and parents; and everyone we take has been impressed with the food and the wine.

Admittedly it can be a little cramped; and there is a "rustic" charm in the wooden chairs and tables, and cutlery by Ikea.

If you're looking for a wonderful meal in wonderful surroundings try Chez Bruce at Wandsworth Common but be prepared to pay for it.  If you're looking for good local food at a fair price then Rick's is the place to go.

I had to write to contradict the earlier review. I had Sunday lunch this Sunday, two courses for £10.95 and it was among the best food I have ever eaten. The room is basic but the food fabulous.

Living in Tooting isn't a social handicap. In fact it's a great place full of culture, character, greenery (honest!) and good restaurants. Unfortunately, Rick's Cafe, despite its pretentions, isn't one of them.

Having gone along on a monday evening with a fistful of eat out cheap vouchers from the Times, i was hoping to start the week off in a fine style. I was most disapointed.

The seating is like being on a rush hour tube but without anything vaguely interesting to look at. Hard seats that feel like they've been nicked from a local church don't make for a pleasant dining experience. And being squashed up the corner of a former shoe shop doesn't help. The art on the walls is particularly off-putting.

Despite striving to be a mod-european eaterie, the placee smacks hard of try-hard old-school Tooting.

I ordered mussels (£5) to start. But they'd run out. So I settled for the double baked goats cheese with plum. It tasted like 1970's creme caramel. My girlfriend's risette of goose was not much better - a bit like Marks and Spencer's pate on a bit of dry toast.

Main course was o.k but the steak came undercooked and with approximately 5 chips.

Service was uninspired and sales driven.

Rick was busy in the kitchen and did take 30 secs to listen to comments about the food. I appreciate that running a restaurant AND looking after customer service can be difficult, but Rick needs to learn a bit about running a restaurant that is one step above the Halal chicken shop 3 doors down. Rather than listen to any comments, Rick simply shrugged his shoulders and got back to his chip fryer.

Overpriced and lame. I'll not be back to check Rick in a hurrry
