Rating: I don't recognise the restaurant that is in previous (bad) reviews having been to the Lantern this evening with friends, The service was exceptional and the food very good for the price. If you are looking for good straightforward greek food in a friendly restaurant - this place is just the ticket. My only criticism would be the coriander in the greek salad that I would have preferred to be basil. 7632

Rating: The worst restaurant experience I have had for a long time, possibly ever. This place used to be a reasonable, atmospheric greek restaurant. We turned up tonight to find that the place has been refurbished and lost all of its atmosphere, apparently the owner died late last year and it is now run by his daughter. Now, the food. It is possible that the fish meze (9.95/head, six different dishes) came straight out of a box from a freezer at Iceland (with the exception of the taramasalata and the salad, i presume). The filo wrapped prawns were identical to those you get in cheap chinese and thai takeaways UK-wide, the portions were small and we ended up still feeling hungry despite the bread, salad and an extra side dish ordered. We didn't want a huge meal, but what we had was awful. The staff were OK, not rude, but never attentive and the place was nowhere near full (this time last year on a Saturday night the place would have been rammed.) After clearing our own dishes and waiting far too long to receive our bill we got up and went to pay at the front desk, upon which we discussed our disappointment with a waiter and then the manager. Without even bothering to listen to our protestations about the derisory quality of the food, he decided to demonstrate incredible arrogance and aggression in talking down to us in a condescending and patronising manner. Don't waste your money here, go to Iceland, buy the £1.99 100 piece fried prawns and fish party box and stick it in the oven. 7623

Rating: Complete load of rubbish, staff were rude food was late and cold, the portions were pathetic, we went with a group of work collegues and booked in advance as there was going to be 15 of us, they asked us to bring cash as 'there card machine was not working' So not only are the owners not paying any tax, but this place was probably the worst restaurant I've ever been too, we were all dissapointed and felt completely ripped off. When we complained to the manager who was sitting in a corner table playing cards he just laughed and shrugged it off! please do yourself a favour and avoid this place or you will leave thinking there was a hole in your pocket.... 7564

Rating: What a joke and a waste of time and money, especially considering the option of all the other resturants in Ealing. This was the worst Greek restaurant I have ever been to and I make the mistake of taking my wife and child with me. The staff were not friendly and gave the impression that they couldn't be bothered. The food was below the standard that I have been used to. I for sure, will not be going back there again. 7352

Rating: We have just got back from The Lantern. We smell of smoke as people, including staff, smoke at an outside hatch with the smoke blowing inside the restaurant. Illegal I am sure. Food was average but the service was extremely poor. We were left waiting for the next part of our meze while our waitress smoked at the hatch. The singer was unkempt and was too loud.5837

Rating: We had my 30th birthday party at The Lantern recently. There were 37 ofus (plus a baby!) and comments we received from our friends / family afterwards were all positive. There was an enormous amount of food and the service was excellent. Majit was extremely attentive and displayed the surprise birthday cake that had been bought for me beautifully. I've no idea how he managed to do it without me seeing! The music was good - appealed to all ages - and the tambourines etc. were used by a few of us! Other staff were generally helpful, with the exception of one slightly disinterested waitress. The restaurant had also put strings of balloons up which complemented the banners and 30th balloons arranged by my wife. We were a little disappointed by a misunderstanding regarding the seating arrangement - we thought we'd be able to use the whole of one section, to keep our party together & away from smokers. To make up for this, though, they made the whole restaurant non-smoking for the evening. A HUGE bonus (it only takes one smoker to fill up a room with ceilings this low). All in all, an excellent evening. 5065

Rating: My husband and I recently went to The Lantern on a Sunday evening; I'd been several years before and liked the food / atmosphere, but it was my husband's first visit.First of all we discovered that, despite the detail given above, the retaurant was smoking; they had put this sign on the website ready for the July ban! We therefore asked to be seated in a non-smoking area, but this was not possible either as they don't separate smokers / non-smokers (even at quiet times). We asked for the least smoky area; they put us at the back on the balcony. Our Polish waitress was ok, tho forgot our drinks and didn't come to check if we were enjoying our meal while we were eating. The starters were good, as was my husband's Kleftiko. My lentil lasagne had about 3 (barely visible) lentils in it and was nice, but mainly topping and vegetables. I asked the waitress to inform the chef / suggest they re-name the dish, but she just stared at me blankly. During the meal, two tables of customers started smoking below us. It was horrible. The balcony was clearly not the place to put non-smokers. In such a low-ceilinged restuarant with windows only at the front, it was not long before we felt compelled to hurry away. I will visit the restaurant again, but must say that we felt let down by the service / disinterested waitress / smoking policy. 5039

Rating: I live in Acton and now clas the Lantern as my local Taverna. When I have friends staying from Germany we always make the effort to go to the Lantern. The food Mythos Bier and entertainment is first class. The staff always make you feel so welcome and there is never any hurry to leave unlike the west end which is a rip off.4645

Rating: Described quickly: Greek that's done and tastes cheap by Greeks for the tourist... but hang on you're not a tourist, and this ain't Greece. Don't go here unless you're in a group (say 4+). The live music is good for a laugh, it's a guy with a guitar bashing (is a good description) out 60s-80s tracks. Don't expect Eric Clapton... or anyone remotely close and you should be allrite. If you're in a group, and you like your beer, this is a fab place to come. The menu promises a "seasonal" Meze, which isn't particlarly fresh (by seasonal I mean that the waiters and staff customise to make it the best it could be...). Very disappointing, I expect Delicatessen standard or better from these guys. I grew up with Greek friends, and believe I know what to expect from a good Greek restaurant. I love my Kalimata Olives, Artichoke hearts, Sundried tomatoes, Anchovies, Feta cheese and so on. If you're a fan of these foods, don't go here. You'll be served flavourless, bland stuff, that's been sitting in Sunflower oil.... (where's the Olive oil!!). If you don't like those foods metioned because their flavour is too strong, you'll probably like them here because they have no flavour. Ok, the food is poor, but drink plenty of beer so you don't taste it, screech along with musician, go with a group (4+), it'll be a fun night. 2066

Rating: i went as part of a birthday party for one of my closesrt friends and as soon as we pulled up i knew it would be an expereince as there were lights spilling out of the building and was oozing good character. we were met with excellent greetings and service and the food was the icing on the cake. it encouraged conversation and interaction which is what is most needed on a night out! the live music was excellent and invlovement was encouraged and tambourines and various instruments were handed out! nothing bad about this restaurant in fact i am planning my own 21st there this october with a lot of my friends. 2053

Rating: Made the unfortunate mistake of going to this restaurant based on recommendations on this site. What a disaster. Service non-existent, the food an oily pool and "live" music comprised of a one man band which made me want to take a knife to my wrists. No under 40's in sight. Steer VERY clear!1926
